Description
Trades Hall, also known as No. 39, is a social club located in Workington, dating from the early to mid-19th century. The building features painted incised stucco walls with angle pilasters and an eaves cornice, set on a chamfered plinth. It has a graduated greenslate roof with coped gables and stucco and rendered chimney stacks. The structure is two storeys high and consists of five bays, with mid-19th century extensions at the rear and a lower two-storey, five-bay wing to the left.
The main entrance includes a six-panel door with a radial fanlight, framed by a pilastered surround with a false keystone. The building has sash windows with glazing bars, all set in painted stone surrounds. The rear extension features two plank doors on split levels to the right. The ground floor has three blind windows with imposts, and the doors and windows are adorned with carved-head keystones, all beneath blind hexagonal openings in alternate-block surrounds. Additional mid-19th century extensions to the right and 20th century extensions to the rear are not of particular interest.
