Description
The library, built in 1906, is constructed from coursed, squared rubble set on a chamfered plinth, with rough-dressed stone except for the architraves and carved details. It features a sill band beneath the windows, and pilasters that extend to an eaves band. The roof is hipped and covered with graduated slate, complemented by corniced stone end chimneys and moulded cast-iron gutters. The front facade, which faces High Street, is symmetrical and consists of a single tall storey with five bays. The central entrance includes a panelled door topped by a semi-circular fanlight within an architrave, with a mullioned window above. The doorcase is adorned with polished granite columns that support a pediment, and the word "LIBRARY" is carved in sans-serif on the frieze. On either side of the entrance, there are two tall two-light mullioned and transomed windows in architraves, with panels located below the sills.
