Description
The former Co-operative Society shop, located at No 5 Jacktrees Road in Cleator Moor, was established in 1856, with the cast-iron verandah dating from 1876. The building features rendered rubble walls and a Welsh slate roof with stone coping at the south end, along with brick chimneys at the mid and end sections. It stands three storeys tall and has 13 bays. The ground floor showcases a 20th-century shop front, which is divided by original fluted and panelled pilasters that support a cornice, upon which the verandah rests. The upper floors have sash windows without glazing bars, set in stone surrounds. The glazed verandah is supported by 13 cast-iron fluted Gothic columns, which feature pierced spandrels and antefixae, and it was restored in 1984.
