Description

The Flosh is a large house that has been converted for use as District Council Offices, and was empty at the time of survey in January 1984, though it was noted as a hotel in August 2016. The building dates from 1832, with a south front added in 1886, which features the date and the initials TAM carved on panels in the gabled dormers. There have been later additions and alterations to the structure.

The exterior is constructed from wet-dashed rubble on a chamfered plinth, with a string course between the floors on the east front. It has graduated slate roofs with gabled dormers and rendered, diagonally-set chimneys. The building is two storeys high and has a 7-bay south front that includes a castellated porch with gargoyles at the corners, located in the second bay from the west. The former door, which is now a window, is richly decorated, along with the flanking windows. The present door is located to the right. The main ground-floor windows are mullioned and transomed, while most of the other windows are mullioned and feature 2- and 3-light configurations under hoodmoulds with labels.

The east front has four bays, with 2-light mullioned and transomed windows on both floors, except for the ground floor center, which has a 3-light window. The first-floor windows are adorned with carved spandrels and decorative barge boards. There is a 20th-century flat-roofed extension on the north side, which is not of interest.
