Description
The lych gate and quadrant walls at the entrance to the churchyard of St Leonard were built around 1903 by J.H. Martindale from Carlisle. The walls are made of snecked rubble and stand approximately 3 feet high, featuring chamfered coping that ramps up at the corners. The gate has a braced wooden superstructure resting on battered stone plinths and is topped with a graduated slate roof that includes gablets. The gate itself is double wooden. Above the wall, there are 18-inch high wrought-iron railings with decorative scrollwork, and the corners are adorned with cast-iron lamp supports. This structure is included for its group value.
