Description
This is a milestone dating from the mid-19th century, located to the southeast of Bigrigg. It is made from a single sandstone block that stands approximately 2 feet high and features a chamfered top. The milestone is square in shape and set diagonally to the road. It is painted white and has a rectangular cast-iron plate on its south face. The plate has a black border and raised sans-serif lettering that reads: "TO WHITEHAVEN 4 MILES." The plate on the north face is missing.
