Description
Toll Bar House is a toll-house that has been converted into a private dwelling, dated 1856 on a panel above the bay window. It was originally built for the Whitehaven Turnpike Trust and features incised stucco on its exterior. The house has a graduated slate roof with stone copings, kneelers, and finials on the gables, along with square stone chimneys set diagonally. It also has a cast-iron gutter. The building is single storey and has a gabled porch at the center, which includes a panelled door in a chamfered surround with a 4-centred head. To the right, there is a corniced, canted bay window, and a 3-light window on the south return. All windows are from the 20th century but are set in the original chamfered stone surrounds, retaining the original mullions. There is a 20th-century flat-roofed extension at the rear, which is not of interest.
