Description
This milestone, dating from the mid-19th century, is made from a single sandstone block approximately 2 feet high. It has a chamfered top and is square in plan, set diagonally to the road. The milestone is painted white and features a rectangular cast-iron plate on its south face. The plate has a black border and raised sans-serif lettering that indicates distances to Workington (4 miles) and Cockermouth (10 miles). The plate on the north face is missing.
