Description
Milestone located east of Distington Secondary School, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century, was erected for the Cockermouth-Whitehaven Turnpike. It is a whitewashed square stone set at an angle to display cast iron plates. The plates are inscribed with the distances: "TO WORKINGTON 3," "TO COCKERMOUTH 9 MILES," and "TO WHITEHAVEN 5 MILES."
