Description
The Methodist Chapel in Distington, built in 1838, is currently disused. It features a stone tablet above the door that is inscribed with "PRIMITIVE METHODIST CHAPEL ERECTED AD MDCCCXXXVIII." The chapel is constructed of snecked rubble and has a graduated slate roof. It is a single tall storey with three bays and is set back from the adjoining houses. The design is symmetrical, with double panelled doors and a boarded semicircular fanlight in a stone surround. There are also two boarded-over semicircular headed windows on either side, each within a stone surround that includes projecting imposts and a keystone. The area wall is made of snecked rubble and has semicircular copings, standing approximately 6 feet high. The central gate features cast-iron spearhead standards.
