Description

Sinderhope Methodist Chapel is a Primitive Methodist chapel built in 1860, as indicated above the door. The building features squared stone construction with rusticated ashlar quoins and surrounds for the doors and windows. It has a slate roof and later brick gable stacks. The chapel has a simple rectangular plan and is situated on a steep hillside. The road-facing side is one storey high and has two bays, arranged symmetrically. The central entrance consists of a four-panel door with a fanlight, set under a round-headed arch, and is flanked by two round-headed sashes with 24 panes each. Above the door is a panel with dog-tooth moulding, inscribed with 'PRIMITIVE METHODIST JUBILEE CHAPEL' and the date. The rear elevation has one storey and a basement, with various openings and two round-headed sashes above. The interior contains 19th-century fittings, including pews, communion rails, and a pulpit.
