Description

The memorial fountain, built in 1903, is located in the market place at the north end of Cleator Moor. It was donated by the townspeople to their benefactor John Stirling to commemorate his golden wedding. The fountain is made of polished grey and pink granite and features three steps on a moulded plinth. At the top, a squat drum with an inscription supports a large bowl, which is surmounted by a smaller bowl on a slender column. The pelican or heron finial that was mentioned in a previous listing is no longer present.
