Description
Fiddleback is a farmhouse dated 1709, as inscribed on the lintel over the side door, with 19th-century alterations. It features whitewashed coursed sandstone on a chamfered plinth beneath a rounded, graduated greenslate roof, complemented by stone and rendered chimney stacks. The building is two storeys high and consists of three bays, along with stables, arranged in an overall fiddle shape, which is the origin of its name. The 20th-century door is set beneath a painted fanlight with intersecting glazing bars, framed by a fluted doorcase that includes impost blocks, a dentilled cornice, and a swan-neck pediment. The sash windows are surrounded by painted architraves, with the window above the entrance being false. There are blocked earlier round-headed windows on both floors. At the rear, a dairy door features an inscribed lintel. The stable has a plank door and external stone steps leading to the loft above. The listing does not include the 20th-century porch, garage, and brick extensions.
