Description
The stable block for the demolished Crofton Hall, dated 1826, was built for the Brisco family. It features calciferous sandstone ashlar on a chamfered plinth, with raised quoins and a string course. The building has a central bay adorned with Ionic pilasters and pediments, and a graduated hipped greenslate roof topped with a wooden bellcote and weather vane. The structure is two storeys high and consists of seven bays. The large central entrance has plank doors set in a quoined surround with a segmental arch, and above it is a Venetian window. The pediment that once held a clock face has been removed. The flanking symmetrical bays contain panelled doors in quoined surrounds, while the painted-over sash windows above feature radial glazing bars set in round-headed arches. There are also ungazed openings with stone architraves.
