Description

Milestone north of Dovenby, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century, was erected for the Cockermouth-Maryport Turnpike. It is made of whitewashed stone with a rounded top. Attached to its curved face is a cast iron plate that reads "COCKERMOUTH COURT-HOUSE 3 MILES, MARYPORT MARKET PLACE 4½ MILES," with the lettering highlighted in black.
