Description

Milestone beside Dovenby Craggs, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century, was created for the Cockermouth-Maryport Turnpike. It is made of whitewashed stone and features a cast iron plate attached to its curved face. The plate is inscribed with "COCKERMOUTH COURT-HOUSE 2 MILES, MARYPORT MARKET PLACE 5½ MILES," with the lettering highlighted in black.
