Description

Milestone located at Papcastle roundabout, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century, was created for the Cockermouth-Maryport Turnpike. It is made of whitewashed stone with a rounded top. Attached to its curved face is a cast iron plate that is inscribed with "COCKERMOUTH COURT-HOUSE 1 MILE, MARYPORT MARKET PLACE 6¼ MILES," with the lettering highlighted in black.
