Description
Hames Hall is an early 19th-century Gothic estate, designed by Sir Robert Smirke. It includes a cobbled courtyard enclosed by a wall with a turret and buildings arranged around the courtyard. The main hall is two storeys high and built of ashlar. The central porch features a Tudor arch with carved headstops, surmounted by a castellated gable, and is topped by a central bay window. Flanking the porch are octagonal turrets with castellations, and Gothic bay windows with quatrefoils and castellations. A moulded string runs between the floors. The courtyard itself is cobbled and features roughcast two-storeyed buildings, including a coach house adorned with a clock in an aedicule supported on brackets. A section of the courtyard wall terminates in a round turret. A three-light Perpendicular stair window is also present.
