Description
Wordsworth House is a mid-18th century building located on Main Street, where the poet William Wordsworth was born in 1770. The house is open to the public and features two storeys constructed of stone, with projecting stone quoins that have V joints. The entrance includes an eight-panelled door that opens in two halves, flanked by two Doric columns on pedestals, supporting a moulded entablature. Above the entrance, there are nine sash windows with moulded stone dressings and glazing bars. In front of the house, there is a small garden enclosed by stone walling, along with gate piers made of stone that have moulded caps and ornamentation. Wordsworth House is part of a group that includes Nos 2 and 4, The Trout Hotel, and Grecian Villa on Crown Street.
