Description
Grecian Villa, also known as the County Fire Office, is a free-standing square villa built in the early 19th century. It is constructed from buff sandstone ashlar and features a cornice band, a moulded top cornice, a plinth, and Tuscan end pilasters. The building has two storeys. The front façade includes a recessed central bay with an entrance flanked by two Ionic columns in antis, a balustraded balcony above, and square piers supporting the first-floor window. There is a three-light sash window on each floor on either side of the entrance. The return sides have four windows on the upper floor and two on the lower floor. The rear wing is omitted from the description. The interior is said to have fully detailed plaster cornices. This building is a notable example of Greek Revival architecture. Grecian Villa, along with Nos 2 and 4, The Trout Hotel, forms a group with Wordsworth House on Main Street.
