Description

Blaithwaite House is a house that now serves as a Christian Holiday Centre. It was built in the early 19th century for W.J.D. (Donald) and has extensions dated 1894 by G.D. and further extensions by J.C.P. (Parkin) in 1924 and 1925. The building is constructed of painted snecked sandstone ashlar, featuring an eaves cornice and V-jointed quoins on a chamfered plinth. It has a graduated greenslate roof with stone chimney stacks. The house is two storeys high and has five bays, with a lower two-storey, four-bay extension to the right and additional 20th-century extensions at the rear.

There is a square-columned porch beneath an entablature with a frieze of paterae. The entrance features a glazed door with glazed side lights and a fanlight, which has glazing bars that form the initials WJD. The sash windows, which also have glazing bars, are set in painted stone surrounds, while the extension includes casement windows with glazing bars. At the rear, there is a blocked carriage entrance with a date above it, and a shop window to the left for a Tourist Information Office. The rear extension displays datestones on its side walls, and the ground floor features a five-light stone-mullioned window along with casement windows.
