Description
Stodhart Lodge is a house built in the early 19th century, with additions made in 1869. The building features ashlar and coursed squared gritstone, with some rock-faced gritstone dressings. It has slate roofs, some of which are hipped, all topped with leaded ridges. The eaves cornice is moulded, and the gables are stone coped with moulded kneelers and pineapple finials. There are stone stacks with decorative bands, and a brick stack on the rear elevation. The house is two storeys high plus attics and has an irregular plan.
On the south elevation, there is a five-bay front made of ashlar, with a single bay in coursed gritstone to the west. The elevation has a shallow plinth and a central porch supported by Doric columns, featuring a plain entablature and a semi-circular headed doorcase with a plain fanlight. Below the doorcase are original glazed oak doors, with pairs of plain sash windows on either side. Above these, there are four similar windows. Over the porch, there is a semi-circular headed stair window. To the west, there is a lower bay with a glazing bar sash window that has a moulded architrave and a plain sill-band, with a similar window and sill-band above it. A moulded cornice and a low parapet wall are present above this section.
On the rear of the 1869 addition to the northwest, there is a datestone inscribed 'JB 1869'. This addition is in Gothic style and features rock-faced dressings. The south elevation of this addition has a painted door and a twin lancet window above it with glazing bar sashes, along with a panel that has fretted decoration above.
