Description
The railway viaduct at Chapel Milton was built around 1867 and 1890, designed by architects Barlow and Campion. It is constructed from coursed, squared, rock-faced gritstone. The viaduct features two curved arcades that converge to the south, with fourteen arches on the east side and thirteen on the west. The central arch on the east side is blocked with a blind Venetian arch. It has tapering rectangular piers that include a projecting stringcourse at the top. The arches are stiled and voussoired, with a stringcourse and parapet wall above, which is topped by projecting copings.
