Description
This listing describes a pair of gate piers, railings, and gates located to the south of the Church of St Thomas Becket in Chapel-en-le-Frith. The structures date from the 18th and 19th centuries and are made of gritstone and cast iron. The gate piers are rectangular, approximately 9 feet high, and feature moulded bases. They have a large overhanging cornice and are topped with banded ball finials. Attached to the piers are a pair of 19th-century gates, which consist of four principal vertical bars with baluster finials set within a rectangular frame. The top half of the gates has a diagonal tie, and below, four shorter bars are inserted between the others, also topped with similar finials. There is a length of 19th-century cast iron railings extending from the right-hand gate pier.
