Description
No. 8 Market Place is a house dating from the 17th century, with a 19th-century refronting to the rear and other 19th-century alterations. The building features rendered stone on the north and west sides, while the south side is made of coursed, squared, rock-faced gritstone. It has gritstone dressings and quoins, topped with a stone slate roof and a single gable end stone stack. The house has two storeys on the north side and three storeys on the south side, with an irregular arrangement of windows.
On the north elevation, there is a doorcase with a large shouldered lintel on the west side, leading to a plank door. To the east, there is a small single light window, followed by a 19th-century glazed and panelled door and a casement window to the west. Above these, there are two 20th-century casements in recessed and stop-chamfered openings. The west gable wall features a 2-light recessed and stop-chamfered mullion window, with two semi-circular headed single light windows above. The south elevation includes two 19th-century flush surround doorcases, with small paned top hung casements on either side. There are two similar casements above and an additional two at the eaves.
