Description

The Market Cross in Chapel-en-le-Frith, dating from around 1643, is made of gritstone. It features a three-stepped square base and a square, slightly tapering pier that is partly chamfered, standing approximately 8 feet high. The cross has a Latin type head and is recognized as a Scheduled Ancient Monument. Kelly's Directory of 1904 notes the cross's date as 1643.
