Description
The Royal Oak Inn is a public house from the 18th century that was completely remodeled in the 19th century. The exterior features incised rendering designed to resemble ashlar, with painted stone dressings. It has a modern tile roof that is partly hidden by a parapet wall and rendered gable end stacks. The building stands three storeys tall, with a two-storey wing to the east.
On the north elevation, there are four bays with a shallow plinth. The central doorcase is flanked by attached columns and has a plain entablature above. A rectangular fanlight with diagonal tracery sits over an eight-panelled, raised and fielded door. On either side of the door are large 20th-century windows with top casements, and to the east, there is a plain sash window. Above, there are similar windows, with two pairs of plain sashes to the west and three plain sashes above them.
Inside, the inn features a large bracketed stone fireplace in the front rooms on either side of the hall.
