Description

This building, located at 25 Market Place, is a house with a core dating back to the 17th century, which was refronted in the 18th century and refenestrated in the 20th century. It is constructed of coursed gritstone, with few remaining quoins on the east side, and features gritstone dressings. The roof is covered with concrete tiles, and there are brick gable end stacks as well as a stone ridge stack. The house has two storeys plus attics and a basement, with a three-bay south elevation.

The south elevation includes a large central 20th-century bow window and a quoined doorcase with a plank door to the east. Adjacent to this is a large 20th-century top-hung casement window with thin gritstone voussoirs above. To the west, there is a 20th-century window and door. Above, there are three 20th-century windows, two of which on the east side have small panes. The roof to the east features two gabled 20th-century dormers.

On the rear elevation, there is a central stair window with a chamfered mullion and two lights, along with a single light window immediately below it to the west. The top two lights contain old leaded glass. On either side of the stair window, there are 20th-century additions. Above to the west, there is a three-light chamfered mullion window, and to the east, a similar window with one missing second mullion.

Inside, the building has an early staircase leading to the basement, topped with a 17th-century carved gate. There are various 18th-century panelled doors, one of which retains its original bottle glass in the top two panels.
