Description
The gateway to Stodhart Lodge, built around 1898, is constructed from rock-faced gritstone with ashlar dressings and rock-faced panels. It features an embattled wall with a shallow plinth and pilasters on either side. The structure is approximately 12 feet wide and 15 feet tall, with a central pointed arched doorcase made of rock-faced voussoirs and quoins, leading to a plank door. On either side of the door, there are cast iron lion's heads set into the masonry. Each pilaster has a projecting band slightly above, and near the top of the door, there are projecting stone blocks with central rock-faced panels. Above the arch, a stone panel is inscribed with the word 'STODHART'. There is a stringcourse on square corbels with a central stone block above it. Between the embattlements on the parapet, a plaque is divided into three sections, inscribed with 'EKI 1802 - MIB 1898 - SIB 1862'. A plain stone block surmounts the structure, topped by a seated lion. This gateway is included for its group value.
