Description
Milestone located west of Percy Hill, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century, was created for the Carlisle-Cockermouth Turnpike. It is made of red sandstone and features a cast-iron plate. The stone has a rounded top and a curved face, with a plate on the front displaying raised letters indicating distances: CARLISLE 14 MILES, WIGTON 4 MILES, COCKERMOUTH 11½ MILES. The milestone is whitewashed, with the lettering highlighted in black.
