Description

Milestone located east of the Pink House Hotel, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century, was created for the Carlisle-Cockermouth Turnpike. It is made of red sandstone and features a cast-iron plate. The stone has a rounded top and a curved face, with a plate on the front displaying raised letters indicating distances: CARLISLE 15 MILES, WIGTON 5 MILES, and COCKERMOUTH 10½ MILES. The milestone is whitewashed, with the lettering highlighted in black.
