Description
The Church of Allhallows is a parish church built between 1896 and 1899 by architect C.J. Ferguson. It is constructed from hammer-dressed red sandstone and features a steeply pitched graduated greenslate roof with coped gables and a cross finial. The building includes a rectangular west tower that also serves as a porch, a three-bay nave, and a lower three-bay chancel with a north vestry. The low two-storey tower has a south door and a solid parapet. The nave is adorned with two- and three-light lancet windows, while the chancel features lancet windows and a triple lancet window on the east side. Inside, the spacious area is plastered with stone dressings. Notable architectural elements include a double-chamfered tower arch and a hollow-chamfered chancel arch supported by column responds with quasi-waterleaf capitals. The roof is constructed with queen-strut timber of large scantling. The benching and font are integral to the overall design, showcasing good craftsmanship and detailing throughout.
