Description
The stable block, dovecote, and former barn located to the south of Blaithwaite House date from the early to mid-19th century. Constructed from red sandstone rubble, the building features V-jointed and flush quoins and has graduated greenslate roofs. The stable is two stories tall with a single-storey extension at a right angle, while the former barn is also at a right angle, creating an overall U-shape.
The former stable includes a plank door and 20th-century sash windows with glazing bars set in stone surrounds. The extension has blocked doorways that have been converted into casement windows. The dovecote features a 20th-century door and external stone steps leading to a loft doorway, along with 20th-century casement windows. A round-headed recess in the gable contains pigeon holes. The former barn has a large central cart entrance and 20th-century casement windows on two levels. This structure is listed partly for its group value with Blaithwaite House.
