Description
House. Dated "JW1680" (J. de Wooley) on a door lintel, but extended in the 19th century. Constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a graduated stone slate roof. The building has an L-shaped two-storey plan, with a two-storey porch, the angle of which was filled in during the 19th century. The former front has a projecting plinth and stone quoins. Bay 1 contains two two-light and one three-light double-chamfered mullion windows with hoodmoulds. Bay 3, which is gabled, has two three-light windows, some of which are 19th-century restorations. The central porch has a cyma-moulded door surround with a dated lintel, a continuous dripmould, a two-light double-chamfered first floor window, and a round panel in the gable, which is coped and has kneelers. The double-chamfered mullion windows and door surround on the left side appear to be 19th-century restorations, as do those at the rear. A gabled addition to the right imitates the two-storey porch of the front. There are 19th-century chimney stacks. The interior features timber-framed wattle and daub partitions, chamfered and ovolo-moulded beams with stepped stops, a cyma-moulded stone fire surround, a splat baluster staircase, and many original doors and other features.
