Description

Nook House is a pair of houses located on English Street in Longtown. No 56 dates from the late 18th century and features Flemish bond brickwork on a chamfered stone plinth, with a graduated slate roof and rendered, rebuilt brick chimney stacks. The building is two storeys tall with three bays. It has a four-panel door topped by an intersecting glazing bar fanlight, all set within a plastered surround that includes a moulded round arch and a false keystone. The upper floor has original sash windows with glazing bars and moulded stone sills, while the ground floor has two-pane sashes in 19th-century replacement stone surrounds.

Nook House, which extends to the left in an L-shape, was built in the early 19th century. It has painted stucco walls with angle pilasters and a graduated slate roof, along with stucco chimney stacks. This building is also two storeys tall but has five bays. It features a 20th-century glazed door and glazed fanlight within a segment-headed stone surround, and the windows are two-pane sashes in plain stone surrounds.
