Description

The Grange is an early 19th-century house located on the west side of Scawdwell High Street. Constructed from brick and stucco with a slate roof, the house follows a two-unit plan. It presents a two-storey, three-window facade. The central entrance features a six-panelled door surmounted by a fanlight, accessed via a projecting stone porch with detached columns, a plain entablature, and a cornice. The sash windows retain glazing bars and are framed by moulded architraves; those on the ground floor have bracketed hoods, and the building incorporates a projecting string course between the storeys, along with broad pilasters between the windows. A shallow hipped roof is finished with a dentilled cornice, and lateral brick stacks are present. The stuccoed elevations to the left and right are consistent in style, while a rear wing is constructed of brick. Inside, an early 19th-century staircase with quarter landings features a plain balustrade.
