Description

Scaldwell House is a mid-18th century house that was remodelled in the late 19th century. It is constructed of brick with lias ashlar dressings and a slate roof. Originally planned with two units, the house now has two storeys with an attic, and a six-window front. The windows are 19th-century sash windows with moulded stone architraves, five of which are original 18th-century openings. The central 19th-century front door is set within a moulded stone architrave, flanked by tripartite sash windows with moulded stone architraves. The house features rusticated quoins, ashlar gable parapets, and brick stacks. There are 19th-century roof dormers. The right gable is from the 18th century, while the left gable was rebuilt in the 19th century. A single-storey billiard room to the right of the house has a datestone indicating 1884. The interior retains an 18th-century staircase, which has turned balusters and quarter landings forming a narrow well leading to the attic storey.
