Description
Chequer House is a building that was originally a public house, now converted into a house. It features a datestone marked WS/1700 and is constructed of regularly coursed lias stone with a thatched roof. The building has an original T-shaped plan and is a single storey with an attic. The elevation facing the road has a two-window range, with a gabled cross wing to the left that projects forward. The windows are casement style and sit under wooden lintels. To the right, there is a gabled dormer that contains a two-light stone mullioned window with leaded lights, along with the datestone positioned above it. The building has ashlar gable parapets and kneelers, with brick and stone stacks located at the ridge and end. There are mid-18th century extensions to the rear and a 20th-century extension to the left. The entrance is located at the rear. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is noted to have remnants of an open fireplace with a bressumer, and some ground floor windows feature fielded panelled shutters. The building was formerly known as The Chequers public house.
