Description

No. 1 Cross Street is a group of three houses, now combined into a single dwelling, dating from the mid-18th century. The building is constructed of regular coursed lias stone with a slate roof. It follows a two-unit plan and has two storeys, originally featuring a two-window range of casement windows beneath partially altered wooden lintels. A central 20th-century door is now situated beneath a wooden lintel. The gables are topped with parapets, and remnants of kneelers remain. Brick and stone stacks are positioned at the ends of the building. An early 19th-century wing extends to the left, mirroring the original design with similar casement windows and a central 20th-century door. The room to the left of the entrance contains chamfered spine beams and rafters with run-out stops. An open fireplace, complete with inglenook seats and a bressumer, is present. Ceiling beams are also visible on the first floor rooms.
