Description
The Cottage is a 17th-century cottage, dated 1665, that was raised and altered in the late 19th century. It is constructed from coursed ironstone rubble with a slate roof and brick end stacks. The cottage has a two-unit lobby-entry plan and a two-storey, two-window front. A plank door is located on the right side, with a wooden lintel and moulded wooden surround, approached by two brick steps. The ground floor has a three-light casement window to the left, featuring a stop-chamfered wood lintel, and another to the right, which replaces mullions but retains a chamfered stone surround and hood mould. The first floor features three-light casement windows, both with wood lintels. A datestone is positioned in the centre of the first floor, inscribed with "1665/RB/B." A two-light, ovolo-moulded stone mullion window is found in the left gable. The interior includes a chamfered spine beam with run-out stops and an open fireplace with a cambered, chamfered bressumer.
