Description

Tylecote House is a house built between 1894 and 1896, with older origins, designed by Edward Swinfen Harris for Dr. O'Ryan, a local general practitioner. The house is constructed of red brick in English bond, with tile-hung upper floors and plain tile roofs, featuring brick lateral and internal stacks. It has a double-depth plan and presents a picturesque composition.

The main block is three stories high with three windows and has a hipped roof. It features a central part-glazed door set within a gabled porch. The ground and first floors have wood mullion and transom windows, which are adorned with leaded upper lights. On the second floor, there is a central three-light casement window, flanked by gabled half-dormer windows that also have three lights, transoms, and leaded upper lights.

To the left, there is a two-storey-and-attic projecting wing that includes a bay window on the ground floor gable end, which has chamfered stone mullions and blank basket-arched stone heads. The first floor features a five-light window with a moulded wood lintel and timber tracery that includes trefoil-headed lights and trefoils above. The main block and the wing are decorated with ornamental ridge tiles and finials.

Inside, the house retains its original staircase, chimneypieces, and stop-moulded beams.
