Description
The Retreat is a cottage that dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features a thatched roof with brick stacks at each end. The building has a two-unit plan and is two stories tall with a two-window range. A 20th-century plank door is located to the right, topped with a 20th-century hood supported by brackets and a wooden lintel. To the right of the door is a two-light casement window, while a three-light casement window is situated to the left on the ground floor. The first floor has two-light casement windows set in eyebrow dormers, all featuring wooden lintels. There is a single-storey 20th-century extension at the left end. Inside, the cottage includes an ogee-stop-chamfered spine beam and an open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer, along with a collar-truss roof.
