Description
No. 28 High Street is a house that was originally two cottages, built from coursed limestone rubble with a thatched roof and brick end stacks. It dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. The house has a two-unit plan and is two stories high, featuring a three-window range. There are blocked doors on the far left and to the right of the center, both with wood lintels. The ground and first floors have two-light casement windows, except for a 20th-century replacement window to the right of the right blocked door. All windows have wood lintels, and those on the first floor are set in eyebrow dormers. The entrance is located at the rear. Inside, the house has a chamfered spine beam and an open fireplace with a cambered chamfered bressumer. This building was formerly part of a row of cottages that extended to the left, nearly reaching the corner of High Street and Church End.
