Description

This is a house located at 7 Butchers Lane, dating from the mid-17th century. It is constructed of coursed lias rubble and features a thatched roof. The building has a two-unit through passage plan and is two stories high, with a three-window range of casements, some of which retain their original leaded lights and shutters on the ground floor. The central entrance is a plank door, with a secondary through passage to the left. All openings have wood lintels. Inside, there is a dog-leg stair and a butt-purlin roof. The house is reputed to have monastic origins and has a wall painting in the room on the first floor to the left, although this is not visible.
