Description
Nos 9 to 28 on Barrack Road, built around 1860-70, are mid-19th century houses made of red brick with stucco dressings and a rusticated stucco ground floor. They feature tiled and Welsh slated roofs and stand three storeys tall, with floor bands and a cornice supported by console brackets. Each house has two sash windows with eared architraves on the second floor, three joined round-headed windows on the first floor with ornate cast iron balcony railings, and a ground floor that includes a three-light sash window and a round arched doorway flanked by pilasters, an archivolt, and a keyblock. Some of the houses have been cement rendered. Nos 9 to 12, 16, 20, 24, and 28 slightly project and have quoins. Nos 1 to 8, which are of local interest, form a group with Nos 9 to 28.
