Description
The Roman Catholic Cathedral of Saint Mary and Saint Thomas, located on Barrack Road, is a Grade II listed building. The nave and aisles were primarily constructed in 1863 by Edward Welby Pugin, expanding upon a much smaller church built in 1844 by Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin. The crossing tower, transepts, and chancel were added between 1948 and 1955 by Albert Herbert. The 19th-century sections of the cathedral are designed in the Decorated style, made of brick with stone dressings.
