Description

These are three houses located at 8, 9, and 10 Welford Road, Chapel Brampton, dating from 1848 and designed by E. Blore. They are constructed of squared coursed lias stone with ashlar dressings and a plain tiled roof. The houses are arranged in an L-shaped plan and comprise two units each, forming a group of six windows across a three-window range. The windows are casements with ashlar surrounds and cast iron diamond-pane glazing. There are two entrances positioned between windows on the front elevation, and one to the side, all featuring four-centred arches and ribbed doors. The end bay projects forward with gables, and the centre window has a false dormer. Rebuilt brick stacks are situated at the ends of the buildings. Datestones bearing coats of arms are incorporated into the flanking gables. The houses were part of a larger planned development of ten dwellings, accompanied by wash-houses (see Nos. 1 to 7 Welford Road and wash houses). The interiors have not been inspected. They were included in Buildings of England: Northamptonshire, p.146.
