Description
Almscourt is a group of six almshouses, now converted into two houses, built in 1858 by John Wykes. The structure features squared coursed lias with a plain tiled roof and was originally designed as single-unit plans. It is a single-storey building with a six-window range of stone mullions that contain cast iron diamond panes. There are gabled porches located between the second and third windows and the fourth and fifth windows from the left, both featuring 4-centred heads. The building has ashlar gable parapets and ashlar and brick stacks at the ridge. A central tablet bears a commemorative inscription to Frederick, Earl of Spencer, and Georgina Elizabeth Countess Spencer. The gabled porches also have 4-centred heads on the left and right gables.
