Description
The Nether Heyford War Memorial is a First World War memorial erected in 1921, with later additions. It is located on a small triangular green at the intersection of several roads at the northern end of The Green in the center of the settlement. The memorial features a grey granite Celtic cross, approximately 3 meters high, adorned with limited interlace ornamentation and the letters "HIS" at the center of the cross-head. The plinth bears the inscription: "IN AFFECTIONATE AND/ GRATEFUL REMEMBRANCE/ OF THE MEN OF HEYFORD/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES/ IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914-1919." The names of the fallen are listed on two side panels, while the fourth side is inscribed with "OUR FALLEN/ OF THE SECOND GREAT WAR/ 1939-1945" followed by the names and the phrase "WE WILL REMEMBER THEM." The memorial is surrounded by a flagged area, and a chain supported by iron posts defines the enclosure of the war memorial.
