ALTHORP Althorp, West Lodges (north)

GV II Lodge and gatepier with gates. c.1730. Lias ashlar with slate roof. Lodge of two-unit plan with cross-wing. Single storey; two-window range of two-light casements with transoms and leaded lights under flat arches. Steep pediments to cross-wings. Central stone stack. Entrance in side elevation facing gates, has Gibbs surround with C19 studded door, dormer window above entrance. Rusticated gatepier with ball finials attached to right of lodge by wrought iron handgate with spikes. Wrought iron carriage gate with spikes attached to right. Wrought iron lamp bracket over handgate. The lodge, gates and gatepier form a pair with West Lodge (south).
