Althorp, West Lodges (north)

Althorp, West Lodges (north) is a lodge and gatepier with gates, dating from around 1730. It is constructed of lias ashlar and features a slate roof. The lodge has a two-unit plan with a cross-wing and is a single-storey building. It has a two-window range of two-light casements with transoms and leaded lights, all set under flat arches. The cross-wings have steep pediments, and there is a central stone stack. The entrance, located on the side facing the gates, features a Gibbs surround with a 19th-century studded door and a dormer window above. To the right of the lodge, there is a rusticated gatepier topped with ball finials, which is connected to a wrought iron handgate with spikes. A wrought iron carriage gate with spikes is also attached to the right. Additionally, there is a wrought iron lamp bracket over the handgate. The lodge, gates, and gatepier are designed to complement the West Lodge (south).
